LEVELS OF ZINA
Abu Hurairah r.a. repoted that Allah’s Messenger s.a.w. said:
“A son of Adam’s share of zina has been predestined for him, and he will inevitably fulfill that. Thus the eyes commit zina by looking, the ears commit zina by listening, the tongue commits zina by speaking, the mouth commits zina by kissing, the hand commits zina by acting (or touching), the foot commits zina by walking (towards the sin), the soul (or heart) wishes and desires (the sin) and the private part confirms all of that or denies it.”
UNLAWFUL LOOKING
a. ZINA OF THE EYE
Abu Musa al-Ash’ari r.a. reported that Allah’s Messenger s.a.w. said:
“Every eye commits zina. And when a women wears perfume and then passes by a gathering of men (so they smell her perfume), she is an adulterous (by that).”
b. THE OBLIGATION OF LOWERING THE GAZE
“Tell the believing men to lower of their gaze and guard their private parts (i.e. chastity) - that is purer for them. Verily, Allah is Aware of what they do.”
[Surah an-Nur 24: 30]
c. PROHIBITION OF STARING
One is only entitled to the first look; any subsequent looks are sinful because they signify staring.
Buraydah r.a. reported that Allah’s Messenger s.a.w. said to Ali k.w.:
“O Ali! Don’t follow one look with another, because for you is the first one (i.e. it is forgiven), but not the next one.”
d. DESCRIBING A WOMAN TO STRANGER
Recorded by al-Bukhari, Ahmad and others:
“Let not one women look closely at another woman and then describe her to her husband - as though he is then looking at her.”
